Section 1: Innovation and Products


1.    Building Fabric Product Innovation of the Year
- Sponsored by travisperkins

This award recognises and rewards a major area of innovation in building fabric products.

The judges will be looking for a development that has demonstrated a significant technological advance or brought about a step change in retrofit delivery.


2.    Building Services Product Innovation of the Year

This award recognises and rewards a major area of innovation in building services products.

The judges will be looking for a development that has demonstrated a significant technological advance or brought about a step change in retrofit delivery.


Section 2: Scaling Up Retrofit 

3.    Domestic Retrofit Project of the Year - Sponsored by SIG360

This award is looking for the best individual domestic retrofit project with a focus on processes that are repeatable and replicable at scale.

This may be a single dwelling, a block, terrace or any other small scale individual retrofit project. This category includes social housing.

The judging panel will look for evidence of: well specified, coherent retrofit projects with credible predicted or actual energy savings that have helped further understanding of delivering retrofit at scale; effective implementation, commissioning and handover; identification of lessons learned during the process; and evidence of monitoring and evaluation of savings and outcomes. For this award, a whole-house approach is essential.


4.    Non-domestic Retrofit Project of the Year - Sponsored by BRE

This award is looking for the best non-domestic retrofit project with a focus on processes that are repeatable and replicable at scale.

This may be a single building, a block or any other small scale individual retrofit project. This category includes public sector buildings.

The judging panel will look for evidence of: well specified, coherent retrofit projects with credible predicted or actual energy savings that have helped further understanding of delivering retrofit at scale; effective implementation, commissioning and handover; identification of lessons learned during the process; and evidence of monitoring and evaluation of savings and outcomes.


5.    Large Scale Retrofit Project of the Year - Sponsored by  Eon

This award is looking for the best projects demonstrating energy savings at scale.

This may include area-based retrofit programmes, campus-wide schemes or the provision of energy infrastructure such as district heating networks for example.

The judging panel will look for evidence of: well specified, coherent retrofit projects with credible predicted or actual energy savings; effective implementation, commissioning and handover; identification of lessons learned during the process; and evidence of monitoring and evaluation of savings and outcomes.


Section 3: Retrofit for People

6. Retrofit Installer of the Year

This award is looking for the individual installer or company that has done the most to engage customers effectively and drive the retrofit agenda.

The judges will be looking for evidence of innovative and effective customer engagement and service; delivery of consistently high quality installations and evidence of strategic commitment to driving the retrofit agenda more widely. Favourable consideration will be given to installers that promote whole house retrofit.  


7. Retrofit Promoter of the Year

This award is looking for the individual or organisation that has done the most to promote the retrofit agenda to customers.

The judges will be looking for evidence of successful promotion, innovation and an element of targeting/customer segmentation. Favourable consideration will be given to entrants demonstrating a partnership approach. 

8. Retrofit Assessor of the Year - Sponsored by Institute_for_Sustainability

This award is looking for the individual assessor or company that has done the most to engage customers and drive the retrofit agenda.

The judges will be looking for evidence of effective customer engagement and high quality customer service; delivery of consistently high quality assessments and evidence of strategic commitment to driving the retrofit agenda more widely. Focussing on delivery of whole house retrofit is essential for this award.   

9.    Excellence in Retrofit Training Award - Sponsored by CoRE

This award is looking for excellence in the development and provision of training for the retrofit industry.

The judges will be looking for evidence of consistently high quality training provision that has had an impact on the delivery of retrofit; a strategic commitment to improving retrofit delivery through training; innovation; and a commitment to ensuring the wider benefits of training are maximised (developing links to local employers for example).  

10.    The DECC Retrofit Pioneer Award - Sponsored by DECC

This award is looking for the individual, team or organisation that has made the greatest contribution to low carbon retrofit over time.


The panel will look for evidence of what has been achieved by the individual, team or organisation, the length of their commitment to the sector, and the likely outcomes of the individual, team or organisation’s efforts.

The Retrofit Pioneer Award may be awarded to a nominee or an individual, team or organisation associated with the winning entry of one of the other categories.


11.    Outstanding Achievement of the Year - Sponsored by Better_Retrofit_Partnership_Logo_RGB_Web

This award is looking for the individual, team or organisation that has made the greatest contribution to low carbon retrofit over the past year.

The panel will look for evidence of what has been achieved by the individual, team or organisation, the challenges that had to be overcome (and therefore the commitment shown), and the likely outcomes of the individual, team or organisation’s efforts.

Outstanding Achievement of the Year may be awarded to a nominee or an individual, team or organisation associated with the winning entry of one of the other categories.
